Get a better job. Teach. Join the military. Work on a masters. Become a CRNA, NP or CNS.

Usually, go back and get some more classes. Those professions Dust described usally, requires a B.S. but, some will allow to enter dependent on portfolio or allow them to get addtional classes. I have some that graduated from Regents, that was required to research statistics and other courses.

Just joking, I never make anyone do anything I would not be willing to do as well... however; there is a few times, when I consider options when cathing an obese patient or removing an fecal impaction.... just for those that are considering those big buck RN salaries......

OK Rid, new thread, I have just received an Urgent call minutes ago from a close friend, I need your advice stat!

33 yr old female, on Holidays in Dominic Republic, PMHX Choleitis, since birth, picked up an intestinal bug??? Gigardia? wtf?

Leaving in am to pick her up and bring her back to Canada, shes an RN on floors in medicine where I used to work.

Don't know any Labs, Lytes,....jack shit, any advice when I contact Spanish speaking MD, shes not in ICU....any advice honored.

Wow.. some Doc's place patients on Flagyl. Real common for amebic dysentery. It does have some A/E, and without some lab's checking for fecal luekocytes, etc.. it might be hard. Some physicians do go ahead with the anitbotic route wihout the full work-up, because of the exposure... Get her re-hydrated and she needs a work-up.
