There has been a lot of discussion about the certification levels available in each state on these boards. So since the weather is bad and I was bored I made up this list of the certs for each state. The information is from each states EMS website, if there are any mistakes please correct them in a post. Half a pack of smokes, six pack of diet Pepsi later and 3 hours down the drain, but here ya go.

Yes, you definitely had too much time on your hands :clock:

BTW..... KS has a First Responder level. Didn't know if you wanted that.

Im sending you a case of rubix cubes.....

Try.....flyfishing....woman chasing....beer drinking.....something.

Im teasing.

The Pennsylvania PA EMS Physician is the medical command certification, and isn't actually a PRE-hospital certification level.

New York also has a Certified First Responder Level too..

How the heck did your eyes not bug out of your head looking all that information up??

Take Care,

Actually, Vermont has 2 Intermediate levels, the "I-90" and "I-03". Apparently the I-03 has a slightly expanded protocol option [i.e. NTG with med control, Albuterol with med Control, Glucagon with med control, Intubation]. The only information I could find on certification was that the intermediate was an additional 83 hours [63 didactic, 20 clinical] So, take that for what it's worth.

Honestly, I've worked in Vermont for about 3 months now, and I can't figure out the Intermediate system still.

Vermont also has the "Emergency Care Attendant", as well. Vermont's version of the First Reponder.

Alaska has two more you forgot.

ETT--Emergency Trauma Technician ( 40 hr course)

EMT 1--This is basic EMT

EMT 2--This is IVs, intubation and a few meds (D50, EPI, Atropine in code)

EMT 3--This is a psuedo medic---almost everything except RSI, Crics, and a few other drugs

MICP--this is the paramedic level (mobile intensive care paramedic)

As a side note, medics are not that common in Alaska, they tend to use the psuedo EMT 3s to get away as ALS providers.

Also, ETT-EMT 3 is regulated and certified by the EMS board where as MICPs are licensed under the state medical board with PAs and physicians.

Nevada has two sets of certifications.

One is for Clark County (Las Vegas, Laughlin, etc.) and one is for the remainder of the state. In Clark County, the levels are Basic and Paramedic.

I'm an instructor for the EMT-I-69 course.

Scholarships and bursaries are available to qualified applicants.
