Ok, Ive heard this before. Several times.

It annoys me. But...im curious if anyone else has heard this?

Is there a difference? Between full, and the apparent partial cardiac arrest?

Lesson to all.

Theres NO such thing as FULL cardiac arrest.

I always chuckle and reply better than a half arrest. Actually, the term full arrest was coined from respiratory and then into a "full respiratory and cardiac arrest" hence "full arrest".

I am always impressed when nursing homes or "skilled nursing facilities" call for cardiac arrest on non-DNR patients, and when you arrive there:

a) The patient is not in cardiac arrest, but was asleep or has some other problem, but the staff doesn't know that because they did not do a proper assessment

B) The patient is in cardiac arrest, but no one is doing CPR or any other appropriate treatment- maybe the patient has a NC at 2 L/min, or a NRB at 6 L/min.

NEWS STORIES that tell of someone dying of cardiac arrest. call me crazy isn't that death? what caused the cardiac arrest?

being dispatched for a sudden death, pt has obviously been dead for 12hrs, or 12 days.

I always thought that cardiac arrest was like pregnancy. Either you are in arrest or you are not in arrest.

Take care,

I had a pt at the police station when he found out he didnt make bail he decided to become deathly allergic to stainless steel (handcuffs) When we arrived he stated he was under cardiac arrest but they had the wrong guy.

I am also starting to believe incarceritis is an actual diagnosis.
