Did anyone happen to see what is now called "broken heart syndrome"? Evidently there is quite similar reactions from the heart in that and during actual cardiac related events. THey stated there was EKG changes, showed the cardiomyopathy with the use of an ultrasound, and presents with the same symptoms as an MI. Only difference is this is actually emotional related, and tied to a significant factor in one's life and may be a recurring thing yearly on or around that date. Also, the heart recovers from the "damage" it receives, whereas after an MI it does not. It can return to nearly normal function within less than a week. Amazing - anyone else know anything on this, any good links?

I'm sure this was mentioned on the forums here not too long ago.

Look up "Takotsubo cardiomyopathy"

Hopefully what you were after.

Stay safe,

I have seen many things which state that a great majority of physical illness has some sort of psychological component. I do believe that is the case here, but we already know that physical or psychological stress predisposes the body to illness as it lowers our defenses. Interesting topic indeed.

Yea, it is the cause. That's why they call it broken-heart syndrome. The stress of a break up is used as an example.

My MD friend (yes ... I have friends, don't look at me like that! lol) were discussing it, he says it's called tako tsubo cardiomyopathy, also called broken heart syndrome, where excessive stress with very high catecholamine release causes stunning of the heart, seen in a tumor called a phaeochromocytom that release massive amounts of catecholamines (epi/norepi)
