Monday night I found out that AMR is taking over the ambulance company that I work for, as of the 13th of August.....I don't really know that much about AMR. The company I work for is a Non-profit transport company. I have a bad and good feelings about this happening. I have already put my application in for AMR cause if I didn't I would be out of a job on the 13th. It'll be AMR's first station (that I know of) in Montgomery County, PA. Can anyone give their opinion on what they think I should do in this situation? It would be greatly appreciated.

Move this to another topic area. Tactical EMS is not the right topic area.

What I can say is good luck and AMR isn't really a bad company to work for.

Even non-profits need to make money if they want to survive. A local non-profit hospital near my house didn't just build a new tower and add few hundred beds because it's loosing money. Said hospital is also one of only two Magnet hospitals in my area and has one of the busiest, non-trauma ERs in the area. Profit isn't always a bad thing and not all non-profits loose money.

I work for AMR in Portland right now and after working for a different EMS agency in the area, I love it... of course, we are union and that really keeps AMR in line. AMR is a great company for me and it really fits here, but it could be different there, just depends on management.

I don't know how it would be working for a large corp. like AMR since your at their mercy. As far as non profit, it means there is no one entity getting rich. The gains go back into the company for new equiptment, salary and building projects aswell as some goes back into the community. Anyway good luck with AMR. Its just like everything else, you'll get used to it.

A large corporate entity like AMR/Rural-Metro can and will make decisions based on the bottom line. They will tell you in advance that they are concerned with the well being of their employees, and of the communities they serve. Then they will tell you that they will cut jobs and service when they realize the corporate bottom line is being threatened.

Are they any worse than any other organization, definitely not. Just don't go in with a warm-fuzzy because of what they told you in the beginning. The whole situation will hinge on the people that have to carry it out. If you know the people that will be given this job, you might consider asking them. If you don't, go into it with an open mind, and keep your guard up.
