The problem will always be with upper management and government leaders. How many times have you heard "do it faster and cheaper with less"? Management tends to always see it as a "bottom-line" issue. Money turns the world, not "ideology". To help people is noble. To help people while charging the maximum allowed amount is good business. They don't want highly educated medics because one day they might join a union or something and demand more pay. Like nursing. They would prefer moderately educated medics, they're cheaper.

Plus, it's still a circular logic argument. If they get more medics to man more units, they then argue that the system is "diluted" with medics. Therefore, there are so many available we don't have a shortage, so we don't have to pay 'em so much.

I used to work for a service that if they had a uniform that fit, you would hit the streets that nite. That was 15 yrs ago though, someone please tell me they are not still doing this!

No it's worse... hell, just watch t.v. Saved. he doesn't even have to wear a uniform.. :D

Problem with EMS is: do we have active lobbyist wanting and requiring education.. no.. do we even protest among ourselves for furthering education...no(please see add above for 2 week EMT course), do we demand that competent medics be hired... nope, are we members of associations that promote EMS education such as Advocated for EMS, etc.. probably not.. now really whom is to blame ?
