Oh dusty just likes to go the extremes of both levels of training. By his indication all basics are first-aid providers fresh out of a two-weeker, all the while he and his ultra-hip paramedic friends have attended years of advanced scientific didactic lecture at the university level.

See, kids... this is what happens when you jump into a conversation already in progress, making assumptions you have zero evidence to support. If our new friend had bothered to actually read a little around here before appointing himself my psychoanalyst, he would have known that I criticise paramedic education as heartily as I criticise basic training. They both suck.

Now that the playing field is just a little more level, discuss.

Ha! Get over yourslf.

Guy I haven’t done the course. EMT training isn’t very well known in Australia. There are only 3 private organisations that offer EMT training. EMT training is only recognised by workplace first and some private companies that do event coverage.

This is what I have read on the course contents. I don’t know any further information. Sorry.

Airways Management.

Bag Valve Mask Resuscitators

Manually Triggered Ventilators

Oropharyngeal Airways

Suction Equipment

Laryngeal Mask Airway

ETT intubation (under paramedic supervision)

The game scores have been reset. This will allow everyone to fight for the high score again.

I agree with Dust Devil that we need more education in EMS. Medic school should be two years, and students should already have taken A & P before they even apply.

What?? It only takes 2 years to become a medic over there?? America keeps on getting better and better! Maybe I'll come over there to study paramedics lol! Wouldn't y'all love that!

I have more faith in you than I do in most of the EMTs I know in the US, so come on down (or up, as it might be)!

But actually, very few medics go the two year route. Most do it in 9 months to a year, part-time.

WOW!!!! 9 months part time! Even our DIV 2 Nurses (old peoples nurse) have more training than that. 1 year full time at TAFE. How could you learn everything you needed to know in 9 months!??
