Why should I have to ask for directions to a house? If you can't tell me that (if you live in my county) 4300 N 500W is .3 miles north of County Road 400N, then its not my fault your service trusts you to drive.

If you can't read a map to find the best way to an address, again, not my problem.

If you don't have a map on your truck, (join with me) again, not my problem.

The "What does your house look like" thats an ok question, I will ask when my police officers are responding hot to a call, because they can't take the time to slow down and look at house numbers, and potentially get shot during the domestic dispute, like ambulances can.

Honestly, who decided it was up to dispatch to give you directions to an address? Did we all fail sophmore geography?

In my part of the world dispatch better get directions. Even most of the calls that come in showing an address are wrong addresses. Don't know who the idiot that set our system up was but they ripped the tax payers a new one.

You even ask the callers where they are and they say X's house. Don't know it, Wellit's next to B's house. What street are you on I don't know. We do a lot of turn at the dead tree with the barking dog next to it.

Why you making fun of me for failing geography. Just kidding favorite subject next to shop class  .

Maybe if the trailer parks would have the owners put numbers and sponsor decals on the sides of the trailers like NASCAR, they'd be easier to find. At least then Brent would give directions for entertainment.

Dispatch to EMS 1 you are being requested to the XYZ residence for low ETOH syndrome. Directions are to turn left at the monster truck with flat rear drivers side tire. Pass the trailer with Piss on Gordan logo. Take a right after the Bud 8 trailer. And the patient will be in first trailer on the left with the big UPS logo. If you get to the Intimidator trailer you went to far.

If they said...

"Assuming that EMS, doesn't know you, has never been there before, and doesn't know where the barn was that burned down, how would they get there from X landmark."

...it would solve a lot of problems.

Keep in mind, I am a multi-agency dispatcher, but I don't think we should be held responsible for your agencies failure to prepare.

If your agency doesn't have maps for you, and hasn't gone to the effort of gathering or creating maps of our NASCAR hoods.... then why is that my fault?

I thought I was hijacking, but really, this is rural EMS right here too.

We don't have alot of problems with rural areas and directions. Actually in this county it is really simple. There is an imaginary 0 line both in longitude and latitude. The county streets

are numbered off of that. 100W would be the first N/S road West of the 0 line. 100N would be the first E/W road north of the 0 line. So an address of 8523 North 300 West would be 8.5 miles north and 3 miles west of the 0/0 intersection. or .5 miles north of 800N on 300W.

When we get into subdivisions, they still number them as they would fit in to the county even though they are on named roads. So that helps quite a bit. And we can give cross roads for 75% of addresses.
