A massive earthquake causes a house to collapse on its residents and bury them in its cellar. When the Red Cross arrives, the rescue team spends hours feverishly removing the accumulated debris to reach the couple trapped inside. Finally, only a wall separates the rescuers from the victims, and one of the team pounds on the wall with his hammer to signal the occupants that help has arrived.

A voice calls out from the buried cellar: "Who's there?"

"It's the Red Cross!" shouts the excavator triumphantly.

"We gave before Christmas," answers the voice in the cellar.

Go figure. No one wants to pay for search and resuce.
