I'm up against a problem at work here. We have a computer based system that documents medication orders and we are seeing something hinky.

A dosage of .01 mg or smaller may give us incorrect warnings.

I'm trying but failing to think of any meds that would be given in that small of a dosage in an emergency room setting.

Can any one help me with what meds might be given in less than a .01 mg in dosage?

I don't think there are any but this is a possible patient safety issue.

Only if you are documenting pediatric epinephrine doses as 0.01 mg/kg

Maybe Dopamine, if you use mg instead of microgram

Rather odd that the software doesn't recognize them though.

I don't think anything would be referred to as 0.01 mg as standard dosing, I would agree with AZCEP that micrograms would be better. Even then, that is only 10 mcg's (as stated, for dopamine would be 0.01 mg/kg or 10 mcg/kg.)

If there is, I'd love to hear what it is.

I can't think of anything in mg... i think 0.01mg is the smallest dose of epi for pedi

I'm sure your system accepts mcg? Cause epi drips start at 1 mcg.... but i guess you use 1 or 2 mg to mix it yourself.... whatever, the point is no i can't think of anything
