As far as part-time employees, you have to be credentialed by the LCEMS FTO program, Medic or EMT that currently works for another ALS service in Lee County under the Lee County Wide Medical Protocol. Meaning working for a fire department (ALS) and then work part-time for us. You cannot work more then 48 hrs in a 2 week period. But must work at least 1 24 shift a month. You do not recieve benefits part-time.

In other words you have to be a full time employee to get hired, but if you get throught the FTO program and are credentialed (released), then if you have a fire cert and get hired on with one of the 22 fire departments that are ALS, you can switch your status to part time and still work with us. Otherwise we don't hire part-time employee's outright from the outside.

Damn university kids...LOL. Sam, from what I understand Austin-Travis is fairly progressive system with great benefits and starting pay. I could use an alumnus down there to put in a good word if I decide to apply.

Two services in the Tarheel that I have heard are good to work for are Wake County, which includes Raleigh and New Hanover County, which is on the coast and includes Wilmington.

From what I have heard, and this is second hand information, MEDIC ( Mecklenberg County EMS ), which provides EMS for Charlotte will dispatch you to a hospital discharge if there is one when you are at the hospital completing a EMS call. Again, I can not verify this info.

WHY ??

Not nearly enough employees to handle the outrageous call volume, administration that doesn't give a damn about their employees, driving the city streets incessantly throughout the shift, if you get time for lunch count yourself damn lucky, favortism shown in numerous aspects and by certain people all the time. I fully recognize that these are the same complaints a lot of people have. There's just no possible way that I could put down in words how horrible the place is, and it goes way beyond what's listed above. I get sick to my stomach pulling into the parking lot. Morale is at an all time low. Truth be told, if I had anywhere else to go, I'd glady turn my sh*t in with a smile on my face. I am searching though.

You are absolutely correct.

Whoa,, Sounds like NYC in the late 1980's.....or now. LOL...... we used to eat lunch while driving to calls,,, or try to take a patient to an ER that we knew had a good cafeteria,, and if the patient was stable one of use would eat while the other waited to be triaged, then we would switch after the patient left our care,, the other would eat, while your partner put the BUS back to gether...... it was NUTS

Oh man! You totally nailed that one! :laughing1: We'll ask a pt. which hospital they want to go to and if they have no preference, my partner and I go to the one with the best cafeteria! If we're out somewhere trying to eat and get a call, the person who will be in charge of pt. care gets to eat while the other one drives. Add on top of that dispatchers paging us every 5 minutes telling us to clear the hospital when we've been on duty for 9 hours and have yet to eat and it's enough to make me yank my hair out! I know it's all part of the job, but it just gets so old, know what I mean? :(
