What would you do if you came to a scene where someone hung themselves? whats the proper procedure?

What would you do if a car rolled on its side? How would you properly immobilize the spine and extricate?

If someone had to be immobilized, How would you treat any injuries to their back?

There's a lot of variables that your question doesn't account for. Is the patient dead? Can you access the patient safely? Does law enforcement need to be notified before you enter the scene?

Car on it's side and patients still in their original positions? Stabilize the vehicle and work from there.

Here again too many variables. What type of injury? Where on the back is it located? Is it a life threat?

You've got some decent questions, and with a little clarification you'll get good answers.

well im talking about both..what to do if the dudes hanging dead..and what to do if theyre still alive.(scene secured)

the car is on its side and the only entry is through the side door which is now directly on top.

sucking chest wound inferior to the right scapula on the back, pt has also suffered enough trauma to warrant spinal immobilization.

Heck Wild, We can cut the whole bottom off the car if you want us to. If it is not an emergency extracation, you can stabilize with a KED, rotate to long board and use as many Fire Fighters as you need to get the patient out of the vehicle. Or the roof of the vehicle can be removed and you can access the patient from there. Emergency extracation, grab-n-go.

Uh.. cut them down... Serious, if it is not too late.. which usually it is. I was taught to cut the rope at a distance at least 12-15" from the knot. Never cut through the knot, for forensic reasons. Of course you are going to immobilize them and take spinal precautions, even when intubating. Chances are the have a Hangman's fracture which consists of the bilateral pedicle or a pars fractures involving the C2 vertebral body

Like many said.. too many variables. But the basics is let the Rescue take over and secure and stabiize the vehicle before entering. Dependent on the injuries if I would take out time to place all the immobilization devices on the patient or move as a unit.

If someone had to be immobilized, How would you treat any injuries to their back?

What injuries? Other than immobilizing, what else can be done unless you are discussing lacerations, SCW, etc.. other than that there is no "real treatment" for back injuries than immobilization.

Dude is DEAD, leave him for the police, don't cut him down, if you have signs of obvious death, rigor, dep. lividity, etc.

The car on the side, you need to stabilize the car before entry, with chocks or cribbing, then you can shatter and enter via the rear window, then use a ked, to secure the patient. Cars on the side are always more difficult to operate with.
