Ok, I know this is a stupid stupid question but talking with some weird guy last night who had recently undertaken advanced first aid with some shonky company I’ve never heard of. He went on to tell me that the instructor had taught them to use tin foil and a car battery as a Defib. The thing that got me was he actually knew what he was talking about. Explained how you put the foil of the chest and position the 2 wires. Just the way in which he confidently said it made me think that they actually did teach him this.

On further investigation and to rule out any further suspicions, I googled it. To my surprise there is a website that has information on this.

I can’t say I’d ever try it nor have I heard of it till now. Has anyone else heard of this?

Yeah we used to do it, but carrying the Volkswagen up and down the stairs really got my partner tired. He is a wicked cry baby

Seriously I have never heard of such a thing.

I think someone has been watching too much ER. I can't imagine you can build up enough energy to produce a worthwhile shock, but I could be wrong. Either way, good luck defending that in court.

I would think the voltage of a car battery (around 15 or so) is WAAAAAAAAAAY too low ... I think defibs need around 200....

Careful, you are comparing Volts to Joules. They are measures of different things. They are related to resistance in a way that I cannot remember after all of these years.

Too much old reruns of Quincy M.E. Hope no one will actually attempt this, and hopefully someone will report his instructor for being stupid. We will read from our friends, on how a battery exploded or burned someone. Then how will they know if they are in "fib"..?
