Most people who didn't put lights on their beat up civic at the age of 18 probably had serious career thoughts before EMS. I'm hoping to hear from a number of people who are willing to share what their career would have been if they hadn't gotten into EMS somehow.

For those of you who are out of EMS or considering getting out, feel free to share what you are planning on doing after (or are doing).

I will start it off by saying that I was going to be a math teacher. I had been accepted into a concurrent math and education program at a local university but then ended up applying for a paramedic program and took that route instead.

Excluding all medical fields from consideration, my other plans were either a military career or to be a pilot. Or both. I did both, and enjoyed both. But, of course, I did not make a career out of either.

I wanted to be a stewardess until I realized I was afraid to fly. I've always wanted to do medical field. Hopefully soon i'll be back in school to become a chemist.

Two Years ago, my school counselor asked me what I was going to do with the rest of my life. I told him I wanted to be an audio engineer. 6 months later, and I had totally changed that, deciding to go in to EMS.

I guess you'll need to go with the beat up civic with lights. You've got two years to get there.

I started out wanting to be a teacher, but college didn't agree with me. Now, I am thinking about changing careers after 18 years of EMS. I think I want to play cards or sell minnows for a living.

Well a paramedic or ED nurse would be cool (hopefully starting next year!!) I guess something in the medical field. I don’t mind sports medicine, exercise/fitness stuff ect. Otherwise a Career Firefighter or youth worker.

This thread is quite old. Please consider starting a new thread rather than reviving this one.
