I did leave EMS for a year and dealt blackjack. It was cool and a lot of my players were past patients but I missed the truck.

If I didn't do EMS I would say I would:

1. The engineering guy that gets to shoot the "chicken cannon" at airplane windshields.

2. Teach philosophy or american literature anywhere.

3. A private distiller.

4. The cannon operator that shoots the snow banks to prevent avalanches from happening.

I was actually a latecomer to EMS. I did the college route, majored in music (focusing on composition and piano) and got my teaching certificate. I spent 2 years teaching band, choir, drama, and general music to grades K-12. I learned two things.

1. EMS is much less stressful than being a music/drama director.

2. Paramedic school is much harder than college ever was.

Go figure.

If it wasn't EMS - I would want to do something along the lines of climatology and / or meteorology. With either one, I would still be able to spend a lot of time in places other than the office and still have that freedom that EMS offers. I think weather fascinates me more than medicine.

If I could be anything, I would be a voice actor on a successful cartoon sitcom like Family Guy, The Simpsons, or American Dad. It never ceases to amaze me how flexibe some people's voices are. I'd say I'm better than a lot of people at doing voice impressions, but I'm nowhere near professional quality. I wish I had that kind of talent. So, either that or find some way to work with animals- especially dogs and/or cats.

After I graduated high school, I enlisted in the Coast Guard. After I got out, I flipped burgers for a little while, had a child, became a CNA; then stayed home for the past 8 years.

I am have been a freelance writer for the past 5 years.

I always wanted to become a medic, it just took me awhile to decide to go for it.

well my first year in college I was going for the lpn nurse degree, then after the second semester I thought it was so damn boring, no excitement for me there. Then I started working towards becoming a psychology major, put that on hold once I realized that EMS was the best way to go for me.. I at least finished the emt-b course lol :wav:
