We were discussing the trapped miners in the chat and someone brought up a good question. When do we stop all attempts to rescue or recovery efforts like are going on

there now. Is there a point to stopping. Especially since there has been 3 rescuers have lost their lives already. Is there a stopping point?

In this case there is a good chance they are dead (plus they don't even know where they are). There is no point in risking people's lives, but they might as well keep with the drilling just in case since it's safe.

I can see drilling to see if you can find them. Since there is no indication of life in the holes already drilled, I don't feel it would be right to risk more lives to find bodys. I am sorry for everyones losses in this and other disasters. I feel that rescue efforts when there is still hope should still be weighed carefully and only volunteers do it. Even if you work for someone they should not be able to order you back into an unsafe environment.

Is there a point when you just let them be and make that their grave site?

I agree, when it comes to dangerous for fire fighters to go in and recover their dead in a conflagration, it's too dangerous to go in that mine and keep looking.

16 days I believe and counting. slim hope of finding anyone alive.

my prayers are for the losses of everyone in the mine and associated with it.

I think once 3 rescuers get killed, you say enough is enough.

I agree wholeheartedly but then again, I'm not there on site and having to deal with the emotions of the families. Tough call all around.

Tough call, but I figure that on the day I heard about the rescuers had been killed that they were already on a recovery mission. I was not paying close attention to the news. A sad story, but to lose 3 lives over not even knowing where they are to me is unacceptable.

The drilling seems like a great idea, or maybe some sort of robot, there has got to be better ways to search than building a trench. I might of understood if they knew they were alive and where the were, but they didn't.

The tough call that is being made now, should of been made along time ago. At least they could find better ways to search.
