If it doesn't make it on the chart then not only is it illegal it's unethical. This is the problem with improperly educated provider's using meds. Anything you give a patient is important down the road. Failing to chart something is the pinnacle of incompetence.

You would be surprised at how much patients tell nurses and doctors. And believe it or not the nurses and doctors actually usually know what you are allowed to do. So as one of the other posters said let us know if what happens in the cell stays in the cell especially if bubba is your cellmate.

This isn't Vegas dude. You administer Nitro to someone with a low B/P, and you might be working a code en route to the hospital. And as Scaramedic said, not only is it illegal, it's unethical. You're supposed to be a professional, whether volley or paid. If you don't like it, EMS can live without you....

In Tx, we can give Nitro with out a line provided the BP is above 100. Still a good idea to have a line though. Then again, all of our trucks are ALS so we usually have a line.

Understood, but as a basic starting an IV line, you won't be pushing any drugs to raise the pt's b/p, so what's the point of the basic starting the IV line?

I'm not saying the IV is unnecessary for ALS, but there is no need for BLS to start a line.
